Santa Ana HIgh School’s Garden Club

Are you looking into joining a club? Santa Ana HIgh has many clubs on campus one of them being the Garden Club which is a group of students that gather together to do community service and get some planting experience. The club is ran by Teacher Sherif Zaki who has been teaching at Santa Ana for 22 years, he teaches history and AP psychology.

The club was created by a retired teacher named Peggy Pierson back in the 70s/ 80s once she retired the club was handed to Zaki who loves the whole idea about the garden club. Zaki stated that the club was created to “maintain the beauty of the campus and to maintain the plants”.

Junior Priscila Ceja shared her experience that she had when she attended the club “ I liked it, it was fun and I get happy every time I see my tree because it’s growing so beautifully”.

The way it works is the students get handed a plant and choose a place of their liking to plant it, shovels are provided and water for their plant is too, Students get their community service hours depending on how much time they go. Once done with the service students get a picture to add to their senior portfolio which is needed to graduate.

The club runs from 8am to 1pm, the days are yet to be set due to school only starting 3 weeks ago. In order to sign up students need to talk to Zaki, For any questions please go talk to Zaki in room 720
