The new Maleficent- mistress of evil, a live-action movie of a Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty was released on October 18, 2019. The movie picks up five years after the 2014 live-action adaptation when Maleficent, reformed villain and protector of the magical Moors, saved the day and embraced her role as godmother to Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). This new movie consists of Maleficent going to a castle to celebrate Aurora’s upcoming wedding to Prince Phillip. She meets Aurora’s future mother-in-law, Queen Ingris, a conniving queen who plans a “war” to destroy the fairies. Hoping to stop her, Maleficent joins forces with a group of outcasts to battle the queen and her powerful army.

As soon as the movie came out people started to wrote reviews about it. There have been many articles about how Maleficent has more success than the new movie Joker. According to Box Office, Maleficent earned $117 million overseas, including $22 million in China and $10 million in Russia, for a $155 million global opening. When I had the opportunity to see the movie, the theater was nearly full, but it was mostly kids watching the movie. “It was one of the most amazing movies I’ve ever seen” -Wendy.  In my personal opinion, the movie was great, and it wasn’t like the typical 2019 movies that come out nowadays. I hope that they keep coming up with new Maleficent movies and that you get the opportunity to watch the movie and give us your review on it.
