Are video games good for us? Every day around the world, people are playing video games. Many around us wonder if video games are really beneficial to us as individuals and one may ask, “Why do different people have different opinions on gaming?”. There are both pros and cons to gaming but whether one is outweighed by the other, is your own choice.

Although video games are said to “rot your brain”, video games can actually help you mentally and physically. According to, studies have shown that playing video games can improve hand-eye coordination, the mind’s ability to process information, and problem-solving skills. Not only this, but video games also help by boosting moods and helping relieve stress.

But playing too many video games is not good either because you would not be getting all the physical movement and requirements for your body. According to, “A comprehensive study from the Journal of Health Psychology shows that gaming disorders are linked to greater levels of loneliness, anxiety, depression, sleeping problems, social problems and many other psychological-social problems.” This is why the video gaming industry can have both positive and negative effects on its users.

To solve this problem, kids, teens, and adults can limit their gaming and indoor time. recommends that children should game between 30 to 60 minutes per day on school days and on non-school days, gaming could be 2 hours or less. Therefore, playing video games have pros and cons but there are solutions to those cons.
