Girls basketball wins 2 straight ahead of league finale

The Santa Ana High girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday night with a 34-20 home victory over Orange.

The Saints (7-18, 5-6 Orange Coast League) used a buzzer beater 3-pointer to tie it up at 7 at the end of the first quarter and then another at the beginning of the second to start a run that would lead to a 17-9 edge at halftime.

The run continued into the third and the defense held the Panthers (13-7, 5-6) to just three points in the frame as the Saints had them doubled up, 24-12.

Santa Ana coach Calvin Barnes said “everything is going to follow you as you prepare your mind.” Although the game was successful, he believed that there were many missed opportunities and the team will have a changed and better mindset to prepare for future games.

The Saints won again Monday night, taking a 32-29 contest at Saddleback (10-17, 3-8). They return to the court Wednesday, closing out league play with a home tilt against Estancia (14-12, 3-7) at 6:30.
