On December 13 Santa Ana High School hosted the annual Winter Choir Concert in Bill Medley Auditorium, performing alongside the Heninger choir.

Six different choir groups performed that night, including Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Bass Choir, Treble Choir, and Heninger Choir. A total of 26 songs were performed and there were 6 soloists, consisting of Manuel Almodovar, Rebecca Vu, Nadia Jaramillo, Jesus Ruiz, Jordan Crossen, and Enrique Toscano, along with Bella Wilson and Melissa Aguilar, who performed a duo of “Oh Santa!”

The event began with the alumni choir and chamber singers performing songs from the film “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and the two soloists, Almodovar and Vu got to dress up as the iconic characters, Jack and Sally.

As the show went on there was an intermission after the 15th song, before the choir students had to get back on stage and continue performing before the show ended with the chamber singers and SAHS alumni performing the iconic Christmas song, “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

Senior Chamber and Jazz Choir member Jordan Crossen said “I did alright, I think I could’ve supported better,” after the performance.

“I think I did pretty great,” junior Nadia Jaramillo (Chamber and Jazz) said. “I like the songs that we did and they sounded pretty good, I probably could’ve worked on getting my notes correctly amongst the others because in some sections it’s sometimes tricky to get our notes correctly. I hope to be singing more solos and I hope that our group can really improve and expand in our musicality.”

Choir Director Yessenia Navarro Garcia said “I think the kids did a great job. We worked really hard for the last few months and they were able to put all that effort back into performing, it was great. There were some moments where we could always fix more things and more facial expressions but overall they did a great job. I hope to be able to see some of my students performing all over the world and being professional musicians and just enjoying music everywhere they go no matter what they end up studying. It’s always good to see them continue that love for music.”
