The 4th Annual Dancing with the Staff show was put on by the SAHS dance department November 14 in Bill Medley Auditorium.
Mrs. Huizar was the master of ceremonies and knew how to run a crowd. Multiple people just came to support her such as her student Rachel Aldaco, who showcased her support through signs just for her.
Teachers and students dedicated themselves for weeks to rehearse. Some of these teachers had never danced before or experienced their first time performing, like Mr. Dominguez.
Dance team opened the performance with a dance to an Ariana Grande song, followed by Ballet Folklorico who performed the Vals de Chiapas to Marimba Claro de Luna. Mr. Dominguez danced to multiple songs and brought the energy to the crowd. Followed up by Ms. Garbiso who performed a lyrical routine at first and switched to dance to NSYNC and El Alfa. Ms. Figueroa danced to City Girls, Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, and El Alfa.
Mr. Schwinge interpreted Paul Blart for his dance. Although he had a step back at the end of the dance he fought through it. Mr. Ngyuen followed and had a special guest, his daughter Grace Nguyen and danced to Justin Timberlake. Ms. Stack had a country inspired dance to Beyonce and Nancy Sinatra.
When they presented this next dancer two rows stood up and cheered just for him, Mr. Ceja, the girls volleyball coach. Up next was APUSH teacher Ms. Spielfogel, former mirror ball winner gave it her all in order to regain her former title. But up next was Mr. Chavez, last year’s winner who fought to keep his title.
Ms. Dinh was up next, who came in style with her fur coat. Librarian Ms. Zepeda followed, then Mr. Elmasry who also had special guests, his son and daughter performing alongside him. Mr. Gonzalez closed everything off with an outstanding performance that got the crowd going.
To end it all, Ballet Folklorico closed the show by performing Danzon de Champotón. The results came in and Chavez was the winner and kept his title, with Ceja capturing second place. The audience choice winner was Gonzalez.
Chavez said “my goal was to have fun but also do a different genre from last year.” He thanked “Nadia, Gabby, and Pamela for coming after school and Saturdays to rehearse” and his “family who came out to support.”
He mentioned “the added pressure because if you win once, people expect you to win again. I like to win things and am happy with the outcome.”
