On Friday, Jan. 31, SAHS held its second pep rally of the 2024-2025 school year. The rally’s theme was Monsters University and each class was invited to participate by wearing class colors. Seniors wore red, juniors wore green, sophomores wore pink, and freshmen orange.
Leading up to the pep rally, there was a spirit week, which consisted of pajama day on Monday, twin day on Tuesday, college gear on Wednesday, camo attire on Thursday, and class colors on Friday.
The pep rally was hosted three times during the 6th period.
The pep rally started with the national anthem sung by the choir and the presentation of colors by our NJROTC. Then, each class representative went up to the middle to get each class hyped up. The freshmen got booed, a tradition for every pep rally, while the crowd cheered for the seniors.
All of the winter sport teams went up. The first was the girl’s wrestling team with the coach introducing the entire lineup, the boy’s wrestling team was next. Next came boy’s basketball, followed followed by the girls. Second to last, the boy’s and girl’s soccer teams walked out, concluding with the girl’s water polo team.
Between each sports team going up, there were different performances. After the boy’s wrestling team, the dance team went up to perform one of the dances they were set to perform at Godinez High School the following weekend.
After the boy’s basketball team, there was a game held which the juniors won, consisting of a pairs with one of the individuals blind folded. The person who was not blindfolded had to lead the one who couldn’t see to a chair. The first one to sit down from all grade levels would win.
One of the most liked performances was up before the boy’s soccer team: Baile Folklorico. They encouraged the audience to participate with them through claps. Lastly, Song Pom went up as the last performance to end the rally.
Senior ASB xxx secretary said, “I think the outcome of the pep rally was great for the amount of time and resources given. I think we can and will definitely do better next pep rally to be better prepared and get the students more hype.”
“I thought the pep rally was great, the energy was high throughout the week because we were all excited. My favorite part was the baile of Baile Folklorico Los Santos because we got to be part of the dance as we clapped with their dance moves,” senior Rachel Aldaco said.
