Saints win again with third straight shutout
Santa Ana High’s boys soccer team ran its winning streak to six Monday afternoon, beating Saddleback 2-0 in an Orange Coast League matchup at the Santa Ana Bowl.
Both teams had chances early as Bryan Cisneros stopped a Saddleback corner with a header and Brian Maravilla missed on a free kick for the Saints (15-5-3, 10-0-1). Christian Pulido and Randy Guerrero combined for the clean sheet, completing Santa Ana’s third consecutive shutout. The team has only allowed two goals over the span of 11 league contests.
Roberto Estrada got the scoring started to give Santa Ana a 1-0 first half lead, leaving the Roadrunners (8-5-7, 7-2-2) visibly frustrated because the Saints scored.
Estrada scored again in the second half on an assist from Brian Maravilla, bringing the crowd to its feet and finishing off the scoring.
“Still undefeated in the league which I’m happy about,” Guerrero said.
“I think we have a perfect team to make it far and we can be the champions this year,” Estrada added.
The team has moved up to No. 4 in the Southern Section SS Division 4 rankings as the playoffs approach, and is currently No. 116 in California and 372 nationally.
The Saints play again today, wrapping up the regular season at Estancia (4-10-4, 4-4-2) at 5 p.m.
