Girls soccer team advances in CIF playoffs, then falls to Rialto
Santa Ana’s girls soccer team advanced to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoffs Monday afternoon with a 2-1 home win over Lakewood.
The Saints (9-8-4) got on the board first with a first half goal from senior Stephanie Serrato, but the lead was short-lived as the Lancers (7-11-1) responded before the break.
Tensions rose as both teams tried to take the lead before junior Anahi Moran netted the game-winner for Santa Ana late in the second half on a free kick.
“We hype each other up and know we have each other’s back,” senior Valerie Garcia said after the win.
“We will proceed to work hard and we will see how far we can go as a team together,” junior Monserrath Rodrigues added.
The Saints’ season then came to an end Wednesday during the second round in a 2-0 loss at Rialto. The Knights (14-3-3) are ranked 6th in CIF-SS Div. 5 and will go on to face Monrovia (12-4-3) on Friday.
