Santa Ana High’s girls water polo team was eliminated in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs February 7 with a 17-7 home loss against Buena Park.

Brianna Gonzalez got the scoring started for the Saints (15-11) after they fell behind early and Santa Ana’s scoring was spread out amongst the roster.

Buena Park (25-6) took advantage of the game situations, making a number of its goals on penalty shots.

Saints goalkeeper Emily Ambrocio noticed that the Coyotes kept shooting toward the right so she did her best to block more towards that side of the goal, but the Buena Park offense proved to be just a little too much.

“Last senior game, we played our hearts out,” Meranda Mora said.

“It was a tough game and I’m proud of my girls for giving it their all,” head coach Maer Cruz added.

Buena park went on to be eliminated in a 10-7 defeat against Roosevelt in the second round, while Alta Loma (31-3) took the crown with a 12-6 win over Marlborough (14-5) in Saturday’s final.
