It was a tight contest throughout, but in the end Santa Ana’s boys basketball team was eliminated in second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs after a 60-56 loss to Cate.

The Saints (19-8) were led by 23 points from junior Jack Rivera and 17 from senior Emmanuel Lemus on 8-of-9 shooting, but came up just short as the season came to an end.

Cate (14-8) went on a run in the third quarter that was able to hold up despite a back and forth final frame.

Rivera made three 3-pointers on the night to pace Santa, and Lemus added nine rebounds to go with his hot shooting.

The Rams went on to be eliminated in quarterfinals after an 89-74 loss to eventual champion Long Beach Jordan (22-12).
